Cops: Man beat transgendered girlfriend, led chase over 'pride'!!!

|

John Russell Eddy Jr., 38, is already a registered sexual predator.

The Alachua County Sheriff's Office on Monday released a 911 call in which a woman told a dispatcher she had been dating Eddy for several weeks and that he was aware she was a transgendered individual. But when others found out, she said, he "freaked out" about it, reports the Gainesville Sun.

Police said Eddy adamantly denied he knew his girlfriend was transgender and planned to "create a show" so he could "reclaim his pride" with his family.

Authorities said Eddy drove the woman to his family's Gainesville house, where he pulled her out of the vehicle by her hair and arm, then repeatedly punched her in the head before slamming her head to the ground. She lost consciousness.

Cops also said Eddy backed over the woman with the vehicle while fleeing — there were tire marks on her shirt.

The beating was followed by a two-county pursuit. At one point during the pursuit, Eddy swerved toward a patrol car, running the officer off the road.

Then Eddy drove into the path of a Gainesville police officer, who managed to avoid a collision. However, the officer's patrol car ended up in a deep, water-filled ditch, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Eddy is facing charges of aggravated battery, assault on an officer, battery, fleeing and eluding police, as well as a moving traffic violation. And they are thinking about charging him with attempted murder.

Maybe they ought to add hate crime to the mix.
