Lake County sheriff's investigators are busy gathering clues at Grand Island Baptist Church, trying to determine who broke into the church through a door overnight and stole several bags containing money collected during Sunday's Easter services, reports the Orlando Sentinel.
Officials said they are not yet releasing information about how much money was stolen.
Pastor Don Feezor said about 400 people attended Easter services and that the money collected would have gone primarily toward supporting North American Baptist and local missionary programs. The funds also would have been used for operating the church.
"We're saddened by what has happened," Feezor said. "But we know that God is not surprised. ... It's not going to keep us from spreading his message and accomplishing his mission."
