"My whole family is dead!" screamed Guy Heinze Jr., 22. "It looks like they've been beaten to death. I don't know what to do, man."
When authorities arrived Saturday morning, they found seven people dead and two clinging to life. One of the survivors died Sunday, raising the death toll to eight.

Apparently, bathrooms can be pretty useful spots to hide your money, as contractor Bob Kitts from Cleveland, Ohio discovered. Kitts found $182,000 of Depression-era money hidden in a bathroom wall. Kitts was tearing the bathroom walls out of an 83-year-old home near Lake Erie in 2006 when he discovered two green metal lockboxes suspended inside a wall below the medicine chest, hanging from a wire. Inside were white envelopes with the return address for "P. Dunne News Agency." He told the homeowner about the money; arguments broke out quickly on how to repartition the findings. This led to a legal battle between the homeowner and the contractor, and eventually between the found money's family descendants who had been traced back from the return address on the envelope the money was found in. The contractor would have done well to keep his mouth shut.
A man told police he shot his ex-girlfriend because she gave him HIV. That woman later died in the hospital. According to Hollywood Police, Anton Jamar Josey kidnapped 23-year-old Dominque Duval…… from her job in Fort Lauderdale armed with a gun at about 11 p.m. Witnesses said they heard Duval screaming and being dragged by Josey into a Mercedes-Benz.
Police caught up with Josey at a local gas station, pulling his car over for speeding. “The detectives attempted to stop that vehicle when it turned into the Shell Gas Station at 2801 Pembroke Road,” said Hollywood Police Lieutenant Manny Marino. “When the vehicle came to a stop, however, a female exited the passenger side of the vehicle, ran back towards the detectives’ direction. She was apparently holding her neck, had some type of injury. The detectives obviously approached the vehicle. The driver also exited, and at some point, made a statement as to shooting the victim.”
Police said he later told them he shot her because she gave him HIV. Josey appeared in bond court Thursday afternoon to faces murder charges and charges of possession of firearm by convicted felon, as well as some traffic infraction charges.

Talk about a grand entrance! The Associated Press is reporting that a Florida man is being investigated by the FAA after taking his son to school in a helicopter.
According to the Orlando Sentinel, Bart Sutherin rented a helicopter to take his 14-year-old son, Joseph, to his first day of school at East Ridge High. Why fly? The senior Sutherin was hoping the high flying antics would "make a positive impression on the other students," reports the Orlando Sentinel.
Unfortunately, the wild ride didn't impress everyone. Sutherin, who has a pilot's license, neglected to inform the school and local officials of his plans. The Orlando Sentinel reports that a deputy with the Lake County Sheriff's office who was stationed at the school called the Federal Aviation Administration. The FAA is now looking into the matter.
At least one person was pleased with the landing. "It wasn't something everyone did every day," Joseph Sutherin told an Orlando Sentinel reporter. "It would be extraordinary, and I could say, 'Yeah, I flew into the school in a helicopter.'"
The school's principal, David E. Cunningham, told the Orlando Sentinel he's doubtful that many people even saw the landing since it occurred in an area cleared of students.

As quirky as my fashion sense can get, the idea of chain pumps does not appeal to me. These puppies are the brainchildren of Swedish design students Tove Jansson and Per Emanuelsson.
They actually call these “Chainshoes” (wysiwyg). They won the first prize in the Shoemania design competition which took place last week in conjunction with the Nordic Shoe and Bag Fair, and The Swedish Association of Agents in Stockholm.

When Albert Talton decided to print some of his own money, he had no experience in counterfeiting, printing, or graphic design. A career criminal with a curious and meticulous nature, at the time Talton didn't even own a computer. His first batches of fake bills were created using a standard HP desktop printer. And they weren't very good. Yet, according to a story by Men.style.com, Talton soon became one of the most accomplished and prolific counterfeiters in the history of the U.S. Over the course of three years, Talton managed to evade capture and print $7 million worth of $100 bills. His team used garden variety laser printers, computers and imaging software to circumvent sophisticated anti-forgery technologies built into every bill. The case illustrates how technology has made it much easier to commit high crimes with tools available at a typical consumer electronics store.
Nearly three years ago to the day, former Nebraska I-back Thunder Collins finally seemed to have his troubled life going in the right direction. He had returned to Lincoln, Neb., in August 2006 to finish the degree in sociology he was just a semester short of completing. But the triumphant return to the city of some of his greatest exploits didn't last long as Collins soon found trouble again and it all culminated Monday when he was found guilty of first-degree murder and assault charges.
Collins, who starred for the Cornhuskers from 2000-02, was found guilty of murdering suspected drug dealer Timothy Thomas last September. Another man, Marshall Turner, was also left critically injured in the shooting. A jury in Douglas County began deliberating Friday and came back Monday afternoon with a guilty verdict on the most serious of the charges. Collins received a mandatory life sentence and faces up to 170 years on the remaining charges.
Prosecutors had wanted Collins to be found guilty of first-degree murder, attempted second-degree murder, first-degree assault and three counts of weapons charges, according to a story that appeared in the Omaha World-Herald. Collins, however, has maintained his innocence throughout the trial and reiterated his position in a post-verdict interview. He said someone shot and killed the suspected drug dealer, but Collins has declined to identify the real shooter. "The killer is still free right now," he told the World-Herald. "I'm the only one being punished. I didn't have a gun."
A man murdered his estranged wife after becoming "enraged" when she changed her marital status on Facebook to "single". Edward Richardson, 41, of Mayfield Road, Biddulph, was found guilty of stabbing Sarah Richardson to death. He killed the 26-year-old hairdresser at her parents' home in Brown Lees, Staffordshire. Richardson tried to kill himself after the attack and was sentenced to life with a minimum of 17 years in prison. Fiona Cortese, of the Crown Prosecution Service, said: "Richardson became enraged when Sarah changed her marital status on Facebook to single and decided to go and see her as she was not responding to his messages. "He gained entry by breaking the front door window and made his way into the property.
"Once inside he found Sarah in her bedroom and subjected her to a frenzied and brutal attack with a knife and then attempted to take his own life. We hope that today's guilty verdict will go some way to easing the pain of Sarah's family and friends after losing her in such a violent and abrupt way." In a statement, Mrs Richardson's parents, Beryl and Alan Boote, said: "There simply aren't the words to describe how Sarah's death, and the awful way in which she died, has affected us. We all miss her so much. "Sarah was the loveliest daughter anyone could wish for. She was honest, loyal and sweet, and everyone loved her."

A man, who was not identified, bought a torn painting for $4 in a flea market in Adamstown, Pa., because he was interested in its frame. When he got home he removed the painting -- a dismal country scene -- and concluded the frame could not be salvaged, but found one of the 500 official copies from the Declaration of Independence, folded and hidden in the backing. The copy is a crisp, clean broadside, creased along lines where it had been folded. It was printed by John Dunlap on July 4, 1776, to carry news of America's independence to the citizens of the 13 colonies. It is one of 24 known copies of the Declaration, and one of only three remaining in private hands.

A police officer in Connecticut is charged with first degree sexual assault and criminal impersonation after police say he posed as his twin brother to have sex with a woman. Milford, Connecticut police arrested Jared Rohrig, who is a police officer in Orange, Connecticut. The alleged assault happened in July. According to an affidavit, the victim told police she started to have sex with a man who she thought was her boyfriend, Jared Rohrig’s twin brother, Joe Rohrig. But when the woman noticed the man did not have the tattoo her boyfriend has, she began to cry.
He has been captured by bank surveillance cameras, sneering and holding a pistol sideways during heists. Now authorities hope to catch the serial bank robber by plastering his image on electronic billboards throughout the South. The FBI is searching for the suspect, who they say has robbed at least 10 banks in North and South Carolina, Kentucky and Tennessee. "This is a unique instance in which the subject in these bank robberies has not used a mask ... or any type of a gimmick," FBI agent Kevin Keithley said Tuesday in Johnson City, Tennessee. "It is really uncommon just to come into a bank and show his face like he has." The brazen bandit has been captured in surveillance footage sporting the same close-cropped hairstyle and goatee in many of the holdups. He does not seem to make any effort to cover his face and sometimes is seen aiming a handgun sideways, showing his tattoos on both forearms as he gestures at bank employees. The FBI has mapped the bank robber's path on a map that crisscrosses the southern United States.
The billboard that went up Monday roughly follows the path that bank robber took, the FBI said. His odyssey has spanned more than 600 miles north, from Charleston, South Carolina, to Louisville, Kentucky, and about 500 miles east, from Knoxville, Tennessee, to Edenton, North Carolina. You're never too big for a prosthetic. Ten years ago, an elephant working in an illegal Thai logging camp near the Burmese/Myanmar border stepped on one of the many landmines still buried in the area. As a result, she had to have her left front foot amputated. The surgery required a world record-setting amount of anesthetic drugs -- enough for 70 grown men. According to JodysJungle.com, the resulting wounds took so long to heal that the initial prosthetic leg planned for Motala wasn't able to be used.
On August 15, the 48-year-old, three-ton elephant (who is a resident of the world's only elephant hospital set up by Friends of the Asian Elephant, or FAE) was fitted with a new, permanent prosthetic leg, reports the Associated Press. Motala's first walk with the new leg lasted about 10 minutes and she celebrated by tossing dirt in the air.
Motala isn't the first elephant to receive a prosthetic leg. Another resident of FAE's elephant hospital, Mosha, took that title two years ago as a baby. Soraida Salwala, Founder and Secretary General of FAE, told Paw Nation that she is pleased with Motala's progress, saying it's a good sign that she's already putting weight on the new leg. Motala has been wearing a temporary prosthetic for the last three years to prepare her for the permanent prosthesis.
