Chinese Police Close Hilton, Allege Prostitution!!!

Chinese police have shut down one of Hilton's flagship properties in China and arrested at least 22 people suspected of running a prostitution ring at the hotel, several news outlets are reporting.

Reports say police are investigating Quinglong Property Development Co., the owner of the Hilton in Southwest China's Chongqing municipality, for alleged links to an underworld gang.

The U.K.'s Telegraph newspaper says the hotel's closure followed a raid on its karaoke club, It is not uncommon for karaoke clubs in China to be hubs for shady activity, according to the newspaper.

The hotel's reception desk told the AFP news service the hotel had been closed due to "unforeseen trouble", and would not reopen until July 6.

Police were reportedly interrogating many of the hotel's staff. The gang is also suspected of dealing illegal drugs.

Hilton International, which manages the property, said in a statement, "Hilton Worldwide abides by all laws in every country in which its brands operate and is fully cooperating with the investigation."

Police in Chongqing, a municipality of more than 30 million people, have been engaged in a wide-ranging gang crackdown, AFP reports.
