Man stole firefighter's helmet as rescue workers treated his friend!!

|

Christopher James Bergling, 21, has an odd way of expressing gratitude -- he steals.

Seminole Fire Rescue firefighters showed up early Sunday morning to treat an ill person, an acquaintance of Bergling's, reports the St. Petersburg Times.

While the firefighters of of Engine 30 were providing medical attention, Berling entered the unlocked fire engine's cockpit and stole a firefighter's helmet.

The lieutenant didn't notice the theft until hours later and then called deputies, who tracked the helmet down.

The red fire helmet is worth $500 and is an important piece of equipment.

Bergling may have been drinking at the time, deputies said. He was arrested on charges of grand theft, burglary of an unoccupied vehicle and possession of a controlled substance.
