Man pops question. Girlfriend says yes. Girlfriend falls off rocky trail. Helicopter rescue ensues. That, in a nutshell, is what happened Sunday afternoon to a couple who set out for a romantic hike in a Maryland park just outside Washington, D.C., according to reports by The Washington Post and WJLA, an ABC affiliate, in Washington. The man and women had gone hiking on the Billy Goat Trail along the Potomac River when, at some point, he proposed to her. And then, authorities said, she fell -- about 10 feet down the rock face.
"That must have been a heck of a proposal,'' Assistant Chief Scott Graham of the Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service quipped to the Post. "I believe she did (say yes) .... If she didn't, I think we ought to investigate this one."
The couple managed to call for help. A U.S. Park Police helicopter lifted the woman to safety. She was taken to a local hospital where she was treated and released.
