Giants Cut Super Bowl Hero David Tyree!!!

|

The Giants have cut wide receiver David Tyree(notes), whose incredible catch helped New York win Super Bowl 42 in 2008, the Newark Star-Ledger reports.

"I talked to (assistant GM) Kevin Abrams this morning and he said it was a very tough decision for the team," Tyree's agent, Michael Clouser, told the Star-Ledger Saturday morning. "Like anyone else, it was a tough thing for David to hear.

The move was not unexpected, even by Tyree himself. Despite the losses of Plaxico Burress(notes) and Amani Toomer(notes), the Giants have a glut of wide receivers, including 2009 draft picks Hakeem Nicks(notes) (first round) and Ramses Barden(notes) (third round).

"He's obviously disappointed, but we're confident someone else will see the value he brings on special teams and as a wide receiver. We'll see how things go here in the next few days."

Furthermore, Tyree had to sit out the 2008 season with a knee injury, and he struggled with more injuries and dropped passes during training camp. Still, Tyree expressed gratitude for his time with the Giants earlier this week.

"What a joy it was to be a part of something so great from Day 1," Tyree, a 2003 sixth-round pick, said, according to the Star-Ledger. "My experience here has been nothing short of a dream. To be placed in team history and sports history, where do you go from here? "But at the same time, my love for this game hasn't died out yet and I really feel I still have something great to add onto my career and legacy."
