(CNN) -- What makes a woman want to have sex? Is it physical attraction? Love? Loneliness? Jealousy? Boredom? Painful menstrual cramps?
It turns out that woman have sex for all of these reasons and more, and that their choices are not arbitrary; there may be evolutionary explanations at work.
Psychologists Cindy Meston and David Buss, both professors at the University of Texas at Austin, decided that the topic of "why women have sex" deserved a book of its own. They've woven scientific research together with a slew of women's voices in their new collaborative work, "Why Women Have Sex," published September 29 by Times Books.

On Monday evening Brown County jail staff were called to help James Brown. Who has colapse in his cell. Brown County Sheriff's officials say when jail staff responded and began attending to Brown, he was responsive but seemed confused. When they asked him if he had taken any medication, Brown said he had taken a purple capsule pill. Brown's condition got worse. He was taken to St. Vincent Hospital where he later died.
"We have reason to believe that the medical condition in some regard was a result of him ingesting cocaine," Brown County Medical Examiner Al Klimek says the initial toxicology report showed Brown did have cocaine or a derivative of the drug in his system.

Rapper Fabolous was rushed to the hospital on Saturday, Sept. 26, fearing that he'd been poisoned. Rumors of the Brooklyn MC's mysterious hospitalization immediately spread, and concerned fans/friends took to Twitter to offer their prayers and sympathy, concluding that Fab had been in a car accident.
Fab finally explained the circumstances of his hospitalization this afternoon, stating that he had fallen ill while driving in in New York, and was forced to call an ambulance.
"I'm ok everyone..thanks 4 the concern. I was not in a car accident, but I think i know where it started.. Let me explain," he tweeted. "I was drivin yesterday morning & started feeling very sick & felt like I was gon pass out while driving. I veered off 2 da side of the road."
The rapper, who recently announced plans to form a "supergroup" with Ne-Yo and Ryan Leslie, said that he had been in serious pain, and concluded that he might have been poisoned. "I believed I was poisoned so I checked in & was given medical treatment," tweeted Fab.

Buffalo Bills wide receiver Terrell Owens took to Twitter to lash out at former Patriots safety and current NBC analyst Rodney Harrison Sunday night, responding to Harrison ripping him on television by making pointed comments about Harrison's 2007 performance-enhancing drug suspension.
Owens went catchless for the first time since 1997 in the Bills' loss to the Saints, and in discussing the game on NBC's Football Night in America, Harrison (who previously said Owens called Owens "a clown") is "more concerned with his own stats than the team's success."
That prompted this response from Owens on Twitter:

Owens was referring Harrison's suspension for using human growth hormone, in violation of NFL policy. Harrison has always maintained that he used HGH only to recover from injuries and has never used anabolic steroids.
But those little details aside, the larger point here is that Owens has long had a reputation as a malcontent, and access to Twitter gives him an easy way to vent his frustrations. Even with the ringleader in jail, the pursuit of Bernie Madoff doesn't seem to be finished. Sunday night, the trustee who's winding down the Madoff company said on 60 Minutes that Madoff's two sons (Mark and Andrew), brother (Peter) and niece (Shana) will be slapped with a $198 million suit.
They are alleged to have known about the Ponzi scheme, according to the trustee, Irving Picard and his chief counsel, David Sheehan. Sheehan and Picard are also working under the assumption that there is still some money hidden, quite a lot of it, in fact. Picard told the show, "We'd assume it's millions and millions of dollars." Yet, this probably wouldn't help with the task in front of them.
Sheehan says of the $64.8 billion fraud that an estimated $36 million was put into the scheme and "[a]bout $18 (billion) of it went out before the collapse. And $18 (billion) of it is just missing. And that $18 billion is what we're trying to get back." They have the task of making investors whole – to the extent possible. The sons, they continue, pulled $35 million from Madoff accounts, despite having made little or no investment. The suits against these family members follow litigation against Madoff's wife Ruth and several feeder funds. Thirteen have been filed so far, with the hopes of recovering $15 billion. So far, 10% of that has been recovered.
PORTLAND, Ore. (Sept. 28) - Donald G. Fisher, who co-founded apparel giant Gap Inc., has died at age 81 after a long battle with cancer. The company said Fisher died at his home in San Francisco on Sunday morning surrounded by his family. Those who knew him said he was a great entrepreneur and philanthropist who helped shape the retail world and his local community.
Fisher and his wife Doris opened the first Gap in 1969 in San Francisco, after running into difficulties finding jeans that fit. They named the store after the idea of "The Generation Gap" and sold jeans and music, to appeal to a younger crowd. The simple, affordable style that became the namesake brand's trademark resonated with shoppers and took off quickly. A former real estate developer with no previous retailing experience, Fisher initially anticipated maybe "as many as 10" stores. But Gap grew to be one of the nation's largest specialty retailers with more than 3,000 stores in over 25 countries. Gap Inc. now also operates the Banana Republic, Old Navy, Piperlime and Athleta brands. It became a publicly traded company in 1976 and reported sales of $14.5 billion in its 2008 fiscal year.
Sept. 28) -- Chicago police are investigating the gruesome beating death of an honor roll student near a city high school. The beating was captured on video, and police are now using that video to track down the culprits. Derrion Albert, 16, can be seen being struck by a wooden board in the street during a melee involving rival gangs Thursday. After he fell to the ground, the teenagers continued to punch and kick Albert, and to strike him with wooden boards
On the tape someone can be heard yelling, "Derrion, get up!" and calling for an ambulance. Police appealed to the public for help in finding Albert's killers, reported the Chicago Tribune. Albert's family hopes the video will help people identify those involved in his death. A teenage girl who asked not to be identified shot the video. She showed it to the victim's family on Friday, then turned it over to police and Fox Chicago, the Tribune reported. Witnesses said Albert was trying to help another student and got swept into the fight.

The driver refused, Melbourne police said, and then followed the mother who was in a white sedan with her child and another woman as he called police . . .
The white sedan was pulled over in Suntree by police. Pappalardo was questioned and arrested. Her 6-year-old boy sat on the trunk of the car and cried as his mother was led away.

The bizarre Dutch policy of allowing smokers to puff away on pure cannabis but not tobacco has perplexed police in the Netherlands, who have fined a man for mixing the two substances. Zero tolerance to tobacco smoking in Dutch cafes and restaurants is being exercised since a ban came into force in 2008. The man was not fined for smoking a cannabis joint but for smoking. You can smoke cannabis but not tobacco in coffee shops. The unnamed 27-year-old man was caught lighting a hand rolled cannabis joint during a routine police check, and fined because officers found tobacco mixed with the soft drug.
Did you know that if you buy yellow margarine in Missouri you're committing a crime? A 19th century state law banned the sale of yellow margarine, though "it's been years since any violator was ordered to spread them." Most of Missouri's restrictions on imitation butter date to 1895, and they were last amended in 1939. Although the state no longer enforces them, the penalties could still make dealers in contraband dairy product toast: up to a month in jail and a $100 fine for first-time offenders and six months in jail and a $500 fine for repeat offenders.

In Finland, traffic fines are calculated as a percentage of the offender's most-recently-reported income. In January 2002, Anssi Vanjoki, 44, a director of the Finnish telecommunications giant, Nokia, received what is believed to be the most expensive speeding ticket ever— $12.5 million — for driving his Harley at 75 km/h (47 mph) in a 50km/h (31 mph) zone. Mr Vanjoki appealed the fine because his reported income dropped significantly about five days after the incident; because of the new data, the fine was dropped to $103,600, still the most expensive speeding fine in history.

During a bizarre hearing yesterday, a Superior Court judge dismissed animal-cruelty charges against a Moorestown police officer accused of sticking his penis into the mouths of five calves in rural Southampton in 2006, claiming a grand jury couldn’t infer whether the cows had been “tormented” or “puzzled” by the situation or even irritated that they’d been duped out of a meal.
“They [children] enjoy the act of suckling,” the judge said. “Cows may be of a different disposition.”
Burlington County Assistant County Prosecutor Kevin Morgan was certainly irritated by the ruling, claiming the grand jury didn’t see the videos of the alleged incident, including one in which one hungry calf allegedly head-butts Melia in the stomach.
“I think any reasonable juror could infer that a man’s penis in the mouth of a calf is torment,” Morgan argued. “It’s a crime against nature.”
Morley said it was questionable whether Melia’s alleged crimes against cows, although “disgusting,” fit the definitions in the animal-cruelty statute. “I’m not saying it’s OK,” Morley said. “This is a legal question for me. It’s not a question of morals. It’s not a question of hygiene. It’s not a question of how people should conduct themselves.”
Sex with cows is the least of Melia’s problems, though.
He and former girlfriend, Heather Lewis, of Pemberton Township, are also accused of sexually assaulting three young girls over a five-year period, sometimes in Melia’s Cottage Avenue home in Moorestown, where he was a patrolman, authorities said. Melia has been suspended from the force, said a spokesman with the Prosecutor’s Office. Melia and Lewis were both arrested in April 2008, shortly after one of the girls told her stepfather of the alleged abuse. During the course of the investigation, authorities also discovered child pornography on Melia’s home computer as well as videos of him with the cows. Morley also ruled yesterday that the prosecution must turn over copies of images and videos from the computer to the defense, including one video that allegedly shows one of the girls being “subjected to sexual activity.”
Lewis, who also appeared in court yesterday, is also accused of sexually assaulting a juvenile male. Morley denied a defense motion to have Lewis’s individual sexual assaults separated from Melia’s case. Melia, Lewis and their attorneys declined to comment after the hearing.
Morgan, the prosecutor, said in court that the owner of the cows was “very upset” by the incident.
CLINTON TOWNSHIP, Mich. - The criminal is finding new and legal ways to victimize the people he ripped off and threatened to kill.
"Ridiculous," says a loyal and longtime customer of Nick's Short Stop Party Store regarding 22-year-old Scott Thomas Zeilinski decision to sue the store owner and some of the clerks after he, Zeilinski, was shot during an armed robbery.
Zeilinski is serving an 8-22 year sentence for the robbery that happened in November of 2007.
According to police and court records, Zeilinski came in wearing a mask and carrying a knife that he put to the throats of several employees, threatening to kill them before stealing cigarettes and cash. As he was leaving--reportedly still making threats--one of the young clerks grabbed a gun and shot him in the arm and back. Zeilinski's lawyer says his client is asking in excess of $125,000 for pain and suffering and emotional distress.
Since the robbery the store owner has spent thousands of dollars on security to keep his employees safe. He says he is hoping nothing like this ever happens again.
Zelinski says the incident "ruined his life" and believes the store is responsible for it.
Plaxico Burress received a rude welcome to prison life Tuesday. When he arrived at Rikers Island to begin a two-year sentence, his fellow inmates taunted him -- sometimes obscenely -- and heckled him with taunts of "Giants Suck," jail guards told the New York Post.
Cue the most obvious statement you'll read all day:
"He was depressed," one of the guards told the Post after Burress spent his first night behind bars. "He was trying to keep to himself, but everyone was yelling at him."
Fortunately for Burress, his stay at Rikers was short -- by Wednesday, he had already been moved from Rikers to the medium-security Ulster Correctional Facility in Napanoch, N.Y., where he'll be evaluated before he's moved to a permanent location.
While at Ulster, Burress will be under protective custody and mostly kept from the other prisoners.
"He will be separated from the inmate population at all times and confined to a single cell," Corrections Department spokeswoman Linda Foglia said. "He'll only get out for three hours of recreation per day, plus his required meetings with counselors and medical and mental health staffers. He's allowed three showers a week and one visit per weekend. At 11 p.m., it's lights out."
Burress also will be trading in his No. 17 jersey for his new inmate number, 09-R-3260.
According to the Post, the earliest that Burress can be released from jail on good behavior is June 6, 2011.

Knetzger said he sprung into action because Smith was getting too close to Knetzger's wife, who had been dealing with the teller when Smith barged in. We can't confirm that the middle-aged woman gleefully kicking Smith as Knetzger holds him down is Knetzger's wife, but it would be awesome if it was. Smith was arrested and charged.

This isn't the first time "Dude Perfect" has achieved notoriety. Earlier this year their trick-shot-making skills were featured on "Good Morning America."
The stadium shot alone has now garnered over two million YouTube views, which will benefit the children, as the collective has promised to sponsor a child through the charity Compassion International for each 100,000 views they get.

A woman in Arkansas is pregnant with two babies -- but not twins. When she went in for a routine ultrasound, doctors discovered that Julia Grovenburg had a second fetus, a male, growing alongside her first, a female, according to ABC News.
This extremely rare medical condition is known as superfetation and occurs when a woman conceives a second child when she's already pregnant. “When the woman had her ultrasound initially, they saw one sack, one baby developing, and that baby had a certain gestational age; then they noticed a second heartbeat in a child that was much, much younger developmentally,” Karen Boyle, M.D., of the Greater Baltimore Medical Center, told ABC News.In Grovenburg’s case, the babies were reportedly conceived two and a half to three weeks apart and have different due dates (one in 2009 and one in 2010). Though it is unlikely that they won’t be born on the same day, Boyle told ABC News they are not technically considered twins.
Identical twins are defined as one fertilized egg that splits in two. Fraternal twins begin as two separate eggs that are ovulated simultaneously and then fertilized at the same time, Boyle said. In Grovenburg’s case, one egg was ovulated and then fertilized. Two and half to three weeks later, the same thing happened again, only to a second egg.
The risk with superfetation, Boyle said, is that the second baby is often born prematurely, which can increase its chances of having lung development problems. Boyle said she was able to find only 10 reported cases of superfetation. While Grovenburg’s case appears to be superfetation, her obstetrician, Dr. Michael Muylaert told Arkansas’ KFSM-TV that “it can only be confirmed after delivery by chromosomal and metabolic studies on the baby.”

PARSIPPANY, N.J. – Astrid Thoenig got dressed, went to work and sat at her desk smiling Thursday as she slid her finger gently under the envelope flap of yet another identical birthday card. They don't make that many that say "Happy 100th." Thoenig was interrupted by a steady stream of deliverymen bringing bouquets, chocolate-dipped strawberries and stacks of cards to the Thornton Insurance Co. in Parsippany where she's been answering phones, keeping financial records, handling payroll and typing up documents for more than 30 years.
"It's another day — it's hard to explain," Thoenig said of turning 100. "I don't feel old, and I don't think old." Born Sept. 24, 1909, in Bloomfield, N.J., Thoenig's earliest memories start in 1918, when she witnessed something so traumatic, "it erased all memories of my childhood before that."
"I remember coming down the stairs from my bedroom and saw these two coffins in the living room: one white, for my sister, and the other for the grown person," she said, recalling how the flu pandemic of 1918 killed her father and her 10-year-old sister within hours of one another. "To see my father and sister — of all the things I can't remember — that's very vivid in my mind."
Thoenig, her remaining sister, and her mother also were infected but survived. Her mother lived until 101 and her sister, who suffered permanent hearing loss from the illness, was 95 when she died. A few years ago, scientists tracked Thoenig down and took blood samples from her as one of the few remaining survivors of the pandemic of 1918-1919 that killed an estimated 30 million to 50 million people worldwide, including thousands in New Jersey.Her current job is her favorite — working alongside her son, John Thornton, and grandson Peter at the family-owned insurance company.
"I'm 67, and one of our jokes is: 'How can I retire before my mother does?'" John Thornton said. He says his mother is a meticulous worker, reviewing contracts, preparing the payroll, making sure bills are paid, and is always pleasant company.
Thoenig credits her son for giving her the job, taking her to work — although she still drove until age 98 when a botched hip operation made it difficult to get around — and always being patient.
The growing stack of birthday cards may have identical motifs, but the messages inside them each touched her in their own way. Some, sent by people she's never met, were from seniors who continue to work and are inspired by her example: "I'm at my job 37 years and still love it," someone wrote.

Prosecutors charged Orlando A. Hadley, 40, of the 3800 block of Lawler Drive, on Monday with six counts of recklessly risking infection of another with HIV. Hadley is held in lieu of $200,000 cash-only bond. Police said the charges were issued against Hadley because he had numerous sexual encounters with a woman without telling her of his status. The victim later found out that she is HIV positive. Police asked that anyone who had sexual contact with Hadley since February 2009 call detectives at 314-889-2341.

For the first time, an experimental vaccine has prevented infection with the AIDS virus, a watershed event in the deadly epidemic and a surprising result. Recent failures led many scientists to think such a vaccine might never be possible. The vaccine cut the risk of becoming infected with HIV by more than 31 percent in the world’s largest AIDS vaccine trial of more than 16,000 volunteers in Thailand, researchers announced Thursday in Bangkok. Even though the benefit is modest, “it’s the first evidence that we could have a safe and effective preventive vaccine,” Col. Jerome Kim said in a telephone interview. He helped lead the study for the U.S. Army, which sponsored it with the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases.
Even a marginally helpful vaccine could have a big impact. Every day, 7,500 people worldwide are newly infected with HIV; 2 million died of AIDS in 2007, the U.N. agency UNAIDS estimates. “Today marks an historic milestone,” said Mitchell Warren, executive director of the AIDS Vaccine Advocacy Coalition, an international group that has worked toward developing a vaccine. “It will take time and resources to fully analyze and understand the data, but there is little doubt that this finding will energize and redirect the AIDS vaccine field,” he said in a statement. The Thailand Ministry of Public Health conducted the study, which used strains of HIV common in Thailand. ROME (Sept. 23) — Here's another of the Mafia's trademark offers-you-can't-refuse: pay or be eaten by a crocodile. Italy's anti-Mafia police unit said Wednesday it has seized a crocodile used by an alleged Naples mob boss to intimidate local businessmen from whom he demanded protection money. Officers searching for weapons in the man's home outside the southern Italian city last week found the crocodile living on his terrace, said police official Sergio Di Mauro. The crocodile, which is 5.6 feet long and weighs 88 pounds, was fed a diet of live rabbits and mice, Di Mauro said. He said the suspect, an alleged boss in the Naples-based Camorra crime syndicate, used to invite extortion victims to his home and threaten to set the animal on them if they didn't pay or grant him favors. The man was not arrested but placed under investigation for illegal possession of an animal, Di Mauro said. Investigators are also working on extortion charges against him. Di Mauro said the animal is believed to be a caiman, a species that lives in Central and South America, and it is not yet clear how it got to Italy. The crocodile was placed in the care of Italy's forestry service.
