Why go: Aptly named for its light brown, sugary sand, this quiet strand on the sunny south shore of Maui leads all the way to the busier beaches in North Kihei, but who wants to fight the crowds there, when you can relax in peace here?
The bargain: Maui's average resort rate runs nearly $300 a night, so the Aston Maui Lu , located front and center of the Pacific Ocean, with a nice slice of beach to boot, is a steal with rates starting at $80 per night (Ask for the "Summer Rates" special). The beachfront hotel is undergoing an extensive remodel set to be completed in October, but for now rooms are clean and outfitted with mini-fridges to make up for the slightly dated décor. Tired of sunning? There are plenty of other activities to keep you busy on the 28-acre property, from tennis to walking trails threaded throughout the on-site coconut grove.
